The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), formerly the Ministry of Education, oversees both public and private schools through the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). On November 3, 1962, a Government Board of Education was founded with the main objective of establishing a common standard and foundation for all students across the country.
The Secondary School Examination and the Senior School Certificate Examination are conducted by the CBSE, a national-level board of school education, along with the awarding of certificates. It controls the curriculum and plans the 10th and +2 tests for the institutions that are affiliated with it.
Additionally empowered to award certificates to successful students is the CBSE Board. The certificates given out by the CBSE are accepted for employment and further education.
The main goals were to better serve educational institutions and to respond to the educational needs of children whose parents held frequently-transferable positions in the Central Government.
The CBSE’s main emphasis is on’
- Creation of paradigms that are student-friendly and student-centered to innovate teaching-learning techniques.
- Changes to testing and evaluation procedures.
- Adding job-related and job-oriented inputs to skill learning.
- Implementing in-service training programmes, workshops, etc. to keep teachers’ and administrators’ pedagogical skills current.
Background of CBSE:
- The Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education, which was governed by Rajputana, Central India, and Gwalior, was the first educational board to be established in India in 1921.
- A combined board called the Board of High School and Intermediate Education was founded by the Indian government in 1929.
Affiliations with CBSE
All Kendriya Vidyalayas, all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private schools, and the majority of institutions in India that have received central government approval are affiliated with CBSE. The CBSE is associated with 220 schools in 28 other countries and 20,299 schools in India.
CBSE Examination
Every year in March, the CBSE administers the Class 10 and Class 12 final exams. By the end of May, the results are made public. The board previously held the AIEEE Exam to determine admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programmes at universities all over India.
But in 2013, the AIEEE exam and the IIT-Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) were combined. The common test is now known as JEE (Main) and is presently administered by the National Testing Agency.
Class 10 and 12 Promotion Criteria for CBSE
- For promotion from secondary school (Class 10) to senior school (Class 11–12), a student must receive a 33% overall grade in all subjects (or the top 5 if 6 subjects are studied), with no minimum theoretical mark necessary.
- The promotion threshold for class 12 students is 33% overall, with 33% in both the theory and practical exams (if applicable).
Changes for the Class 10 Exam in 2020
- Beginning in 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will administer two distinct mathematics tests for the Class 10 board exam. A simpler form of mathematics (known as Mathematics Basic) has been established, and the present mathematics exam is now named Mathematics Standard. Students who take the latter version are not permitted to continue their mathematics education.
- The registration form for the class 10 CBSE board exams will include the option to select mathematics. While filling out the registration form for the CBSE Class 10 board review 2020, candidates will be requested to select their preferred exam.
Benefits of CBSE
- The curriculum is simpler and lighter than that of other Indian boards.
- Since there are more CBSE schools than any other board, switching schools is simpler, especially if the student needs to move to a different state.
- The suggested CBSE syllabus is used as the foundation for several undergraduate competitive exams in India.
- Students may participate in both co-curricular and curricular activities through CBSE.
- Typically, when compared to pupils from other state boards, CBSE students are thought to have stronger English language skills.
- The CBSE guidelines make sure that practically all CBSE schools put a strong emphasis on giving their kids a top-notch education.
